Presidential Decree of the Sudan Justice and Equality Movement Presidential Decree No. (1) of the Year 2009 According to the article (40) of the Statute of the Sudan Justice and Equality Movement regarding the authorities, responsibilities and the formation of the Presidential Office and after a wide consultation with the various organs of the movement and the consent of the Legislative Council of the Movement I issued the following decisions:

JEM veteran rebel establishes collective leadership, confirms split

A new splinter group from the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) announced the formation of a collective leadership for the rebel group. It also said that a general conference to be held. Bahar Idriss Abu GardaBahar Idriss Abu Garda, the head of JEM Collective Leadership blamed the chairman of the movement, Khalil Ibrahim for a series of "conspiracies". He further said the establishment of a collective leadership for the group indicating that the names of the 15 members would be announced in the coming days.

New rebel group says struggling for Darfur independence

September 21, 2007 (PARIS) — A new rebel group said it is resolved to struggle for the independence of Sudan’s Darfur region as practical solution to end the suffering of Darfur people. In a statement signed by Commander Idrees Ibrahim Azrag, the Darfur Independence Front/Darfur Independence Army (DIF/DIA) said that "the exercise of the Right to Self-Determination is the only route to a comprehensive solution to our problems."

CAIRO (Reuters) - Sudan is opposed to the unlimited extension of African Union (AU) peacekeeping troops in Darfur, a Sudanese official said on Monday He was reacting to comments by the top U.N. envoy to Sudan who was reported as saying last week that Khartoum -- which has rejected the deployment of U.N. peacekeepers in Darfur -- might instead accept a prolonged and reinforced AU force.

Top UN officials say the world body must abandon efforts to pressure Sudan to accept UN peacekeepers in Darfur. UN Sudan envoy Jan Pronk says the existing African Union force should instead be strengthened. Sudan has always argued that the AU should remain in charge of peacekeeping in Darfur, rather than the UN. Outgoing deputy secretary general Mark Malloch Brown has meanwhile said the US and UK's use of "megaphone diplomacy" is almost "counterproductive" in Sudan. The cash-strapped and poorly equipped AU force currently stationed in Darfur was meant to leave at the end of the month but its mission was recently prolonged until the year's end.
